The HMML (Henry Miller Memorial Library), in Big Sur, is located a half-mile south of the famous Nepenthe restaurant, along the California coast highway. Miller's artist friend, Emil White, (the man in the picture on the wall behind HM's hat), willed his property and house, nestled among splendid redwoods, to establish the memorial. To the left of Miller is a picture of Jerry Kamstra, who was the library's writer-in-residence when this poster was made. Next to his shoulder is Anais Nin, and above them, I was told, is Henry with one of his wives. The nude is an old photo I found tacked to a library wall.
The poster is 16 x 25 inches. The card is 5.75 x 9 inches. |
